On the journey to the South Pole, Amundsen and his expedition named several mountains. Among them was Mount Betty, named in honour of Amundsen’s nanny. Amundsen brought back this rock from the mountain for her.
Amundsen’s expedition built a cairn on Mount Betty, where they left, among other things, a can of paraffin. The cairn is still there and the can is still full.
